In February 2024, the government raised the funding for the Faster Adoption & Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME-II) program from Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 11,500 crore. Electric two-, three–, and four-wheelers sold by March 31, 2024, or until funds are exhausted, whichever occurs first, will qualify for these demand incentive subsidies.

Benefits of Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme

The benefits of the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme are as follows:

  1. The introduction of the new program underscores the government’s commitment to advancing electric mobility and achieving Net Zero goals.
  2. Over the course of four months, the allocated Rs 500 crore will support approximately 400,000 electric two-wheelers (e2W) and electric three-wheelers (e3W).
  3. In response to increasing demand and to ease financial burdens on electric vehicle manufacturers, the government has reduced the maximum subsidy threshold for e2W vehicles from Rs 22,500 to Rs 10,000, and for e3W vehicles from Rs 111,505 to Rs 50,000. Both types of vehicles will receive an incentive of Rs 5,000 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
  4. The Union government has earmarked ₹500 crore for the EMP scheme 2024.
