As per TSRTC MD VC Sajjanar’s statement on Wednesday, the free bus travel initiative for women in Telangana, a part of the Maha Lakshmi programme, has witnessed an unexpected response from female passengers. Sajjanar emphasized that all women passengers using the buses are required to provide their original identity cards, as many were presenting photocopies. To ensure eligibility for free bus travel and avoid ticket charges, TSRTC staff will request women passengers to present their original Aadhaar, voter ID, driver’s license, or any government-issued card. Photocopies displayed on smartphones will not be considered valid for availing the free travel benefit.
Female travelers are advised to ensure the visibility of their ID card photos. In response to the increased demand, the TSRTC administration, under the direction of the MD, has decided to augment the fleet by adding 2050 new buses. It was mentioned that the introduction of these new buses will be phased in over the next four to five months. The expansion includes the addition of 1000 electric buses and 1050 diesel buses to the existing fleet.
